Chinese food
Last saturday was our 5th year wedding anniversary. We celebrated by spending time together just the two of us, without the kids. We're just window shopping, sitting in a cafe and have a really good dinner.
We ate at one of his favourite authentic Chinese restaurant: The Soup Restaurant, in Plaza Indonesia, it's on the 3rd floor, near Din Tai Fung.
Contrary to the name, it just doesn't serve only soup, but a whole range of Chinese food. It's one of the best chinese food around, according to me. It's always full, the restaurant size itself is not so big, but the food is out quickly, and it taste really good.
Here's what we order:
Our stomach is full of goodness after. Make sure you have reservation on the weekend, if not be prepared to wait....
Have a great monday...

TGIF!!
Hi all....
I've been looking for asinan penganten everywhere to no avail.. until my friend told me that there's Kedai Ria, which is located near my house, (behind Sudirman Park apartement building, and near BNI 46 building as well) and that they sell asinan penganten, and it's pretty good. My husband told me that Kedai Ria sell soto as well, and it's famous for the soto ayam.
So two days ago I decided to try it, get my maid to buy it for me at 11 am in the morning. She came back and says it's all sold out. Gosh, that makes me more "penasaran"
Yesterday, she got out at 9 am, and bought the asinan penganten and soto ayam for me. The price is expensive, not like usual warung.. the soto ayam cost Rp. 22,000 and the asinan penganten cost Rp. 15,000.
The soto ayam is not worth it for Rp. 22,000. So expensive and for me is just so-so, since I'm a big fan of Surabayan's soto, and it's not that expensive, and the taste is way better than that.
If you go to Surabaya, try the Soto ayam Imam Bonjol, which is in Jl. Imam Bonjol. Go early, as it's gone by lunch time. It's a really good soto. Another one is Soto ayam Ambengan, di jl. Ambengan, or Soto ayam Pak Sadi. All those three are wayy better than soto ayam Kedai Ria up there, with certainly cheaper price....
The asinan penganten though, is worth it. It's good, I like the 'bumbu'. The inside we can make it ourselves I suppose, only potatoes, tahu, timun, toge, kol mentah and a bit of sayur asin. But the bumbu..mm mm.. .. it's because there's no asinan penganten in Sby.. he he he..
That's for today... Have a great weekend!!

Travel mini scrapbook
Hi all..
I made a mini travel album for my parents, it was their trip to New Zealand in summer 2010. And here's the result. It's measured 6x6", using all Webster's Pages papers. And it's quite thick. And I keep doing it everyday...wondering when can i finished it. It's kind of hard to do other people's travel journal, because then I don't know where the places exactly, and the sequence of the trip, and don't know what their experience is.... kind of frustrating to make it, because I can't put in some journaling and all..
Here's the eyecandy:
What I learn from making this mini travel journal is that I should make their photos smaller, 2R instead of 3R, because then I can have more space to play with the layout.
I will have another mini album to post tomorrow as well, I was commissioned to make a farewell scrapbook album for a friend of a friend who's leaving to USA.
Have a great day..

Weekend's food
This Sunday we get to go lunch with a group of girlfriends after the second service in JPCC.
As always, everytime I go with them, I ended up having fun in the restaurants that they picked.
This time it's in TESATE in Pacific Place. They also have tesate in Plaza Senayan, but I've never set foot over there, thinking it's a traditional indonesian food, which I'm not too keen.
But, oh, how wrong I was. So wrong.
The place is nice, and the music is gamelan, and the food is modern indonesian. We ordered a whole bunch of stuff, and all of them are very very nice, and we end up having wayy too much food, and have to pack it home.
Here's some of what we ordered. Pardon the photos, it's not that great. I have to take it quickly, as all of us are very hungry and can't wait to dig in.
What we ordered is tahu udang, nasi merah set, nasi ijo set, fish with mango salad, rujak penganten, sayur pucuk papaya, and gule kambing. All of them are very good. I will definitely going back to this place. It's a bit pricey, but so worth it for the food. This is the first time ever I love indonesian food, he he he...

Saturday in Bandung
Last weekend we went to Bandung. It was unplanned for us, but planned with our friends.
In the morning they got together in our home and my husband says, why not? Let's go!
We took our kids with us, we went at 8 am, and got home at 12 pm. How crazy is that?
Next time I'm definitely not doing that. Poor kids. They're over tired, and the next day, both my daughters has flu and cough.
When we got there, the first thing we ate is the famous bubur ayam mang Haji Oyo,
we ordered the bubur ayam komplit and mie bakso. Both taste pretty good, and the thing is, it's cheap compared to Jakarta.. he he he..
After, we went to Kartika Sari to buy some snacks and oleh oleh..
Then onto Cascade, for some shopping and fish feeding..
Then to eat in Suiss Steak, I forgot to take the pix..it's a so-so steak.. but very cheap, only Rp. 37,000.
Where in Jakarta can you get that cheap a steak??
After, some of our friends want to see Dago, and we got lost, instead we got into this real estate in Dago, which have some wicked views, and some crazy beautiful houses over there..
And finally arrived in The Valley, outdoor/indoor restaurant that has beautiful views of Bandung, here I took some pictures, although we didn't eat the main course, because all of us are already way too full.. the kids have some fun playing with the swing.. and I can't take it anymore because I'm wayy too tired at this stage and just want to go home. Kids are all cranky and stuff..
Here's a pictures in the Valley:
Next time I would go here again, ordering the main course.
It has a nice ambience, and cakes. I ate the tiramisu, it's pretty good, not so bad....
After, they all went to this kwe tiaw place, which is in a house, (i don't know where exactly, our friend took us there) and it's very expensive, Rp. 50,000 per portion, but they say it's very good. I didn't get into the restaurant, I stay at the car because both of my daughters already cranky and sleeping. It's 8 pm that time, they finish at around 9 pm.
My husband decided to go home right away, while the other car, our friends, still stop by to buy batagor and siomay bandung. Being single... ck ck ck.. he he he..
There goes our adventures in Bandung.. it's fun, but next time if we're taking the kids, we'll go home around 4. But if we want to go with our friends and got home late, we're not bringing kids.

Bogor's food
Last week we went to Bogor with my in-laws. We stay at Aston Hotel Bogor. I was wondering, where to go for food in Bogor? Luckily my sister in law know some place that we can have lunch at. It's definitely 'khas' Bogor. I'm all for trying new food.
So here's the pictures of the food:
All in all, call me biased.. but I'm still a surabayan's food lovers. Nothing beats Surabayan's food. Maybe because I don't like anything pedas and padang food. But I love rujak cingur, tahu tek tek, tahu campur, gado2, bakso, soto ayam, rawon, and nowhere in Jakarta they make decent those food that I mention. But, I love the mie medan, pok phia medan, any jajanan in Pasar Pluit, those I love in Jakarta.
I miss Surabaya, hasn't been back for like years already. And when I go back, definitely on my list is rujak cingur, tahu tek tek, nasi goreng jawa, soto ayam, bakso pak to, and my friend's maid's rawon. Aah.. heaven....
Jakarta is better for their fine food restaurants, like Cassis, Pizza Marzano, Garlic restaurant, Korean restaurants.. those, you can't find in Surabaya.
This saturday we're going to Bandung, I think. Definitely must ask people around, where to eat, as I'm not going back to the same place to eat stuff, unless for the sausage and yoghurt place, that I don't mind. :)
Anyone knows where to get really good rujak penganten in Jakarta? Please leave some comments, will be much appreciated...
Enjoy your day..
So here's the pictures of the food:
The place where we ate |
Ngo hiang khas bogor, different from Jakarta's ngo hiang. The sauce taste sweet, with potatoes. |
